The study aimed to investigate the legacy of the psychology laboratory in the training of professors at the Normal School, implanted in Ceará in the 1920s, and its repercussions in the training of the educators to the present day. Based on the documentary research method, the existence of the Experimental Psychology Laboratory at the Normal School of Ceará is described as a space for the pedagogical practices applied by professor Lourenço Filho in the training of professors. He used techniques and methods of active teaching at the Nova School, marking the possibility of transitioning from traditional teaching to a perspective based on emerging pedagogical science. The documents were analyzed in historical archives and virtual collections, considering the singularity of the society in that context of social, cultural, economic, and political experiences. Among these legacies, the need to offer scientific and applied training to the teacher deserves to be highlighted, as can be noticed by the introduction, by Lourenço Filho, of science subjects in the professor training curriculum; pedagogical practices in an application school and the use of psychological tests; curricular reform of the Teaching Program of the Normal School; creation of the Vacation Course; orientation of twelve final monographs prepared by normalist students.
