This article publishes aspects of a research carried out in the municipality of Poconé / Mato Grosso, in the District of Nossa Senhora Aparecida do Chumbo, at the Vovó Teófi la Municipal Creche. Its objective was to understand the process of insertion of quilombola babies and their daily relationships in the collective spaces of the day care center and the community, as well as, what is the understanding of the residents / family members of the community of babies in these collective spaces. The investigation consisted of an ethnographic research, with a qualitative approach, which used observation in loco, with records in the fi eld diary and interviews with coordinator, teachers, parents and residents of this community. The information was systematized in a descriptive way and analyzed in an interpretative way. The results allow us to affi rm that the nursery is constituted as a space of cultural reference, identity and producing history, since the babies who are there, actively participate in this process. Thus, the community is moving towards a change in the history of its people, building records and filling in gaps that go along with the history of the District of Lead.
