Abstract

This research has been linked to the Education, Teaching, and Diversity Studying and Research Group (GEPEDD) registered to CNPq. Given the social transformations in the world of work and their consequences for workers' professional and technological training, this article analyzes students' expressions concerning Technical Education Integrated to High School in an institution in the Northern Minas Gerais. It reveals the ontological meaning of the integral formation of individuals. This work results from research developed in the Scientific Initiation Program (PIBIC) linked to the Federal Institute of the Northern Minas Gerais (IFNMG). For the methodological development of the investigation, it has used participant observation, bibliographical research, and questionnaires to students from three technical courses. Throughout the study, it was possible to verify the young students' expectations from Vocational and Technological Education regarding the choice of the technical course and the future profession; the social factors that influence the choice of career; the reasons that lead them to drop out of school and the worldview. Thus, it was possible to see that technical-professional training, if it intends to contribute to comprehensive training, will have to allow individuals to engage in the struggle to build a society beyond the capital.
