Abstract

This article reflects on the need to rethink the construction of subtitles aimed at deaf audiences who are still learning Portuguese, highlighting the problems of the closed caption function on TV sets or the automatic subtitles generated by platforms in audiovisual products on the internet. These reflections are based on the studies of Silva (2021), Brochado (2003), Naves et al. (2016) and Vieira and Araújo (2017), as well as the observation of videos. Based on this theoretical and observational scope, it was concluded that descriptive subtitles for the mentioned audience should focus on the correct segmentation of texts and adopt a more concise linguistic structure.
