Abstract

The Brazilian housing scenario was constituted under aegis of a segregation historical process characterized by political, social, economic, cultural, environmental and ideological determinants
that promote the unequal appropriation of urban space by capital, through the worsening of the
housing deficit. In the Amazon, analyzing this scenario is extremely important, due to its
particularities. Thus, we show as an expression of this scenario a comparative analysis of the
housing deficit and the inadequacy of housing in the North region, in addition to presenting the
Urban Project Portal da Amazônia, based on the details of the new methodology for calculating the
Brazilian housing deficit developed by Ministry of Regional Development (MDR) and by Fundação
João Pinheiro (FJP). Aimed at the most vulnerable social strata and need for strategies to mobilize
the population for the right to housing.
