Abstract

This article presents an analysis of the novel Os que bebem como os cães by the writer Assis Brasil from
Piauí. The appreciation of the novel is carried out in line with some theoretical contributions of the French philosopher Paul Ricœur exposed in the book Memory, history, forgetfulness (2000). The methodological path was based on an analytical approach in which questions were raised about the
memory process experienced by the central character, observing the tenuous border established
between memory and imagination. As a result, it is possible to perceive that, given the specificities of the narrative, the evoked images may come from memories or daydreams, compromising the revealed identity.
