Abstract

The article discusses the challenges for the formation of class consciousness in the context of advances in far-right ideologies and the global hegemony of austerity (Mattei (2023). The text shares criticisms of the thesis that the end of labor is due to the so-called microelectronic revolution and financialization, which is suppressing the production process in which
labor is exploited. It argues that in today's capitalism there are more workers and more exploitation and expropriation of labor. It argues that the failure to confront austerity in the name of governability opens the way for alternative parties, most of them far-right, and leads to a distancing of the subalterns from the unions and left-wing parties. The conclusion highlights the importance of internationalist and autonomous class experiences such as those practiced in the International Workers' Association.
