Abstract

This article analyzes the repercussions of Brazilian labor legislation on the country’s public and private higher education after 2016. The methodological procedures adopted included: a literature review, an analysis of official documents published in the period, and interviews. The theoretical frameworks of the Psychodynamics of Work, the Sociology of Work and the Dialectical and Historical Materialism were adopted with a view to enabling a critical analysis of the multiple determinations of the reality under study. The text begins with a presentation of the legal, historical, political and economic circumstances that created the material and ideological preconditions for the transformations that have impacted the working class in Brazil. The subsequent labor laws and their effects are then presented and discussed, in the light of the working conditions, life and health of workers in higher education institutions.
