ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS IN AN URBAN CONSERVATION UNIT IN CAMPO GRANDE, MATO GROSSO DO SUL

Abstract

Sustainable development in urban centers is a recurring challenge to make metropolitan regions
balanced in socioeconomic development and in the preservation of their natural resources in constant impact of human activities. The objective of this study is to carry out a multitemporal analysis of urban growth and a diagnosis of landscape change involving the buffer areas of the Prosa State Park and the surroundings of the Parque das Nações Indígenas, in city of Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, in the years 1995, 2005, 2015 and 2020, as well as to relate urban expansion to real estate speculation and its consequences. The study is developed from the use of geotechnologies and Geographic Information Systems for the analysis of land use and occupation and assessment of environmental impacts besides bibliographic consultations. The presence of green areas, such as the Prosa State Park and the Parque das Nações Indígenas contributed to urban growth and the appreciation of the region's properties. As consequence, greater pressure in the Prosa State Park buffer zone, generating environmental impacts that led to a loss of environmental quality throughout the region.
