Scientific dossier (2026) – Artificial intelligence and academic writing: contemporary challenges
Thematic dossier: Scientific writing and artificial intelligence: contemporary challenges, ethics, and knowledge production
Scientific writing is undergoing profound transformations in contemporary society, especially in light of the rapid development of digital technologies and tools based on artificial intelligence. Language models, text-production assistants, revision tools, data synthesis systems, and reference-management algorithms are directly impacting the ways in which knowledge is researched, written, evaluated, published, and disseminated.
In this context, this thematic dossier aims to bring together scientific papers that critically examine, from different theoretical and methodological perspectives, the impacts, challenges, limits, and possibilities of using artificial intelligence in academic and scientific writing, with a special focus on its ethical, epistemological, pedagogical, social, and institutional implications.
We welcome original and unpublished manuscripts that address, among other possible topics:
-
Ethics in the use of artificial intelligence in scientific production
-
Authorship, co-authorship, and originality in the age of generative AI
-
Plagiarism, academic integrity, and scientific responsibility
-
The impact of AI on researcher training and graduate education
-
Artificial intelligence and science policy
-
New methodologies for AI-assisted scientific writing
-
Challenges for scientific journals and peer reviewers
-
Philosophical and epistemological aspects of automated writing
-
AI, open science, and knowledge production
The dossier will be coordinated by Prof. Dr. Renan Antônio da Silva and seeks to create a qualified space for reflection and critical debate on the future of scientific writing in the age of artificial intelligence.
