The librarian and bibliotherapy in the perception of Clarice Caldin

Abstract

Bibliotherapy has been addressed, over recent decades, as a recurring theme in Information Science. In this study, it is understood as a set of activities aimed at evoking emotions and alleviating suffering and distress, through the promotion of a space of sensitive and empathetic listening. To achieve this, it employs communicative strategies such as storytelling and the reading of literary and non-literary texts, as well as other forms of expression, such as music. The objective of this study was to investigate Brazilian academic production on the subject, carried out by professionals and/or researchers in the field, highlighting the contribution and perspective of Clarice Fortkamp Caldin. Methodologically, a qualitative, descriptive-exploratory approach was adopted. The documentary research began with an analysis of the researcher's Lattes Curriculum, and data were collected through a questionnaire containing 13
questions, submitted directly to Caldin, organized into three thematic blocks: Experiences of Clarice Fortkamp Caldin; Bibliotherapy and the librarian’s professional practice; and Bibliotherapy and the librarian’s education and training. The study concludes that professionals working with bibliotherapy, in this case, librarians, must engage with the theoretical reflections of experienced researchers, particularly regarding the importance of forming multidisciplinary teams in both public and private settings, since a culture of establishing partnerships tends to produce more consistent and effective results.
