A INDEXAÇÃO DOS RELATÓRIOS DE PRESIDENTE DE PROVÍNCIA DO MARANHÃO: um olhar sobre o ensino secundário (1840-1850)

Resumo

Os Relatórios de Presidente de Província do Maranhão são documentos oficiais redigidos com a finalidade de apresentar a situação da administração pública provincial. Nesta pesquisa utilizamos a indexação como técnica para extração e sistematização das informações presentes nos relatórios, para criar instrumentos e dinamizar as pesquisas possibilitando a recuperação deste conteúdo. Objetiva-se neste trabalho apresentar o processo de indexação utilizado a partir da identificação e do mapeamento dos relatórios, evidenciando a importância da análise documental, da extração de termos e da representação temática das fontes. Trata-se de um estudo bibliográfico no qual se utilizaram os conceitos de Lancastrer (2004), Dias e Naves (2007) para a aplicação do processo de indexação; a pesquisa documental pautou-se nos relatórios para identificar os assuntos a respeitos da instrução secundária maranhense. Os relatórios foram divididos em duas tabelas, a primeira trata dos assuntos mais gerais como economia, segurança pública, administração; a segunda é restrita aos assuntos referentes à instrução púbica, como o Liceu Maranhense, a Escola Normal, Casa dos Educandos e Artífices. A partir desta categorização os assuntos abordados nos relatórios referentes à instrução secundária são: professores, matrículas, infraestrutura, método Lancaster, solicitação de disciplinas, número de alunos, reforma de expansão, mudança de edifício, criação de disciplina, compra de prédio, reestabelecimento da Escola Normal, falta de edifício, crítica a Escola Normal. A indexação possibilita produzir instrumentos de recuperação e organização das informações e também o entendimento de conceitos, dos termos e das categorias de análise específicas da área da história da educação.

Abstract

The Reports of the President of the Province of Maranhão are official documents drafted with the purpose of presenting the situation of the provincial public administration. In this research we use indexing as a technique for extracting and systematizing the information present in the reports, in order to create tools and streamline the research, allowing the retrieval of this content. The objective of this work is to present the indexing process used from the identification and mapping of the reports, highlighting the importance of documentary analysis, the extraction of terms and thematic representation of the sources. It is a bibliographic study in which the concepts of Lancastrer (2004), Dias and Naves (2007) were used for the application of the indexing process; The documentary research was based on the reports to identify the respecting subjects of the secondary education in Maranhão. The reports were divided into two tables, the first dealing with more general subjects such as economics, public safety, administration; The second is restricted to subjects related to public instruction, such as the Maranhense Liceu, the Normal School, the House of Educandos and Crafters. From this categorization the subjects covered in the secondary education reports are: teachers, enrollments, infrastructure, Lancaster method, disciplines request, number of students, expansion reform, change of building, discipline creation, purchase of building, reestablishment of Normal School, lack of building, criticism of Normal School. Indexing makes it possible to produce tools for retrieving and organizing information, as well as understanding the concepts, terms and categories of analysis specific to the area of the history of education.
