Abstract

In the literary realm, the autobiographical and biographical genre gained notoriety throughout the 20th century, arousing interest among scholars of literature. In this context, French theorists such as Philippe Lejeune were responsible for developing critical studies about the genre, seeking to establish the intrinsic relationship between the author and
the work. Based on this perspective, the objective of this study is to reflect and establish notes regarding the relationship between Jorge Amado and the autobiographical genre, based on his work "Navegação de Cabotagem" (1992). Through the analysis of the memories exposed by the author in this book, we intend to identify autobiographical clues that can be used to deepen the understanding of Amadian literature. It was observed that in his work, Jorge Amado seeks to distance himself from the traditional conception of memoir and autobiography writing, refusing to follow a narrative linearity and chronological ordering of events. Thus, "Navegação de Cabotagem" (1992) presents itself as a retrospective of the author's life, from his intimacy
to the formulation of his writings. To achieve this objective, this research will focus on the autobiographical and literary fields, having as theoretical reference authors such as Lejeune (2014), Candido (2000), Sousa (2022) and Salah (2008). We intend to highlight some peculiarities present in Jorge Amado's literary tradition, which he manifested in his works, especially in "Navegação de Cabotagem", interesting stories about himself and his writing process. Thus, the research will be based on a thorough analysis of the work, identifying autobiographical elements and establishing relationships between these elements and the literature produced by Jorge Amado.
