Abstract

This document derives from the mini course administered at the XI International Conference on Public Policies (may 2023). Its objective was to generate a space for exchange on welfare schemes and their implications, within the framework of
development models strongly linked to a position of dependence on global capitalism. The protection systems of Uruguay and Brazil were addressed, as experiences that have similarities, as well as particularities that differentiate them. Each meeting began with the presentation of general concepts and then there was a moment of collaborative work, based on instructions to articulate these notions with the practices and accumulated knowledge of the participants. An attempt was made to promote the circulation of different perspectives to reflect on the issues.
