Abstract

Fascism emerges in a deep crisis of capitalism, as it did in the 1920s, and also at this moment, when the crisis of capitalism in its neoliberal form is deepening. The dominant class is unable to maintain the hegemony of society; it is in these moments of crisis that spaces are created for extreme right-wing forces to organize and present themselves as an alternative to power. The study of fascism as it has presented itself in the past and as it presents itself in the present is the central theme of this panel. To think of current fascism as suggested by Alain Badiou, as "democratic", given that institutions in appearance function normally, and to elucidate this phase of an excluding globalization, which affects mainly the workers, and which includes regimes in its fascist form, seem to be subjects to be studied thoroughly.
