Abstract

This article addresses the professional work of social workers in the Social Assistance Policy in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. The bibliographical and documentary study was conducted in light of the dialectical historical method, to unveil the ideologies present in the pandemic scenario, such as the proclaimed "new normal". In this sense, it analyzes the social protection provided by the Unified System of Social Assistance in the three spheres of government. Then, it discusses the work of social workers facing the pandemic and the impacts of the health crisis in the work processes and in the social work with families in the Reference Centers for Social Assistance and Specialized Reference Centers for Social Assistance. Thus, the scenario of false normality accentuates the processes of social inequality, capitalist accumulation, intensification of demand and the need for social workers, SUAS workers and the working class as a whole to be instrumentalized for collective and individual struggles. The Covid-19 pandemic brings repercussions to the Brazilian Social Protection System, putting on the agenda the defense of the Social State and the confrontation of the difficulties in guaranteeing social protection.
