Abstract

This work situates the problem of the new art of governing, which is characterized by the establishment of new mechanisms of power based on statistical reason and the governability of numbers. It analyzes Desrosières' contribution to the emergence of the sociology of quantification. The world in which we live is dominated on all sides by quantifications that are produced in a specific way and have their own effects and uses. Thus, statistical categories become objects of research to the extent that the products of statistical reason are social constructions. Taxonomy only records the state of struggles with deformations that are related to the position that the statistician occupies in the social, political and economic space. It concludes that the social uses of statistical instruments are thus constituted as new modes of domination, management and governance.
