Abstract

This work reflects on cognitive and sensitive limitations to deal with our current experiences by relying on canonical moral values disconnected from collective life circumstances. Useful fictions fill in the gaps and justify alternatives chosen as substitutes for our fears. Curiously, we also point to a guilty seduction by the horror, by the monstrous, as we cast our eyes to the history of the sensibilities of seeing. Reflecting on these sensitive changes and the way they are articulated by the media system may offer solutions to crises caused by the instabilities of a confused time. We seek epistemic outlets to deal with these scenarios and point to ecosophy as a path to imagine another narrative capable of reorienting our relationships with ourselves, with others and with the surrounding ecosystems, the biosphere. This work carries out a theoretical reflection supported by bibliographic research and empirical observation.
