Abstract

This article discusses a proposal for reading mediation carried out in a 1st grade class, of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education, in a Portuguese public school, whose objectives were to contribute to the development of students' ability to read texts of different languages and expand their literary, cultural and artistic repertoire. To this end, we are based on the methodological assumptions of the
Literature based reading program (Yopp; Yopp, 2014), and we chose two Brazilian works: the bookalbum O voo da asa branca (Soud, 2012) and the song Asa branca (Gonzaga; Teixeira, 1947). As a result, the children performed procedures of reading the non-verbal texts in a sophisticated way
and full of subjectivity, filling in the gaps of the text and relating it to their own lives.
