Abstract

This article analyzes the impact of distrust in democracy and the increased perception of corruption in Latin America. Our hypothesis is that the decrease in trust in democracy and its institutions is associated with citizens' perception of corruption, in a context of materialistic societies. The methodology is quantitative survey type, with data from the 7th wave of the WVS (2020). There is a strong relationship between political distrust and an increase in the perception of corruption, which is harmful to democracy.
