Abstract

Based on the presentation of the Food Security Program developed by Caritas Caboverdiana, the aim is to contribute to stimulating the construction and reflection of new practices and methods that contribute to the promotion of food and nutrition security and healthy and sustainable food in Cape Verde. Some historical elements of national and international scope are pointed out, in order to know the strategic foundations of the program, as well as the activities developed. Furthermore, the program's performance is exposed from the perspective of the human and social development of the vulnerable population, betting on behavior change. The program brought several benefits to families, and indirectly to the country, considering that it enabled an increase in the production and consumption of healthy and sustainable foods, increased capacity for democratic participation and insertion in social and economic protection policies, consumption of drinking water in sufficient quantity and safely or obtaining family resources in a sustainable way. It also made it possible to improve the monitoring and follow-up of families and communities by Caritas agents.
