Abstract

This article provides a comprehensive overview of the queer cultural landscape in São Luís do Maranhão, Brazil. It characterizes the region's artistic production across various domains, including drag performance, visual arts, the ballroom scene, cinema, literature, fashion, and music. The text identifies key cultural agents, independent spaces, and institutional centers—such as Chão SLZ and Centro Cultural Vale Maranhão—that foster dialogue, political formation, and artistic expression. Furthermore, it highlights how local artists blend contemporary queer aesthetics with regional traditions to challenge gender norms and occupy public spaces, thereby establishing a consolidated network of LGBTQIAPN+ visibility and resistance in the Brazilian Northeast.
