Abstract

Telma Lopes builds an artistic trajectory deeply rooted in memory, territory, and Afro-Brazilian experience. From her childhood in Maranhão, her work engages with everyday life and expands into aesthetic and political practices connected to social struggles. Her art gains strength through the representation of historical Black women, such as Maria Firmina dos Reis, recovering silenced memories. The artist transforms urban space into a site of visibility and resistance. Her work articulates belonging, memory, and the reconfiguration of Black visual identity.
