Rethinking multiculturalism through the dialectics of desire
on the theory of recognition in the hermeneutics of group rights

The aim of this essay is to present how the theory of recognition, structured by a dialectics of desire, in the work of Axel Honneth, can affect the hermeneutic of the group rights within de relation between multiculturalism, State and liberty. Following this objective, the text was divided in three sections: the first discusses the historical place of the theory of recognition; the second presents the reconstruction, redirection and the redemption of Honneth’s theory of recognition through the dialectics of desire; the third verifies if this movement has its implications for the hermeneutics of group rights, analysing the problems and risks of an ideological appropriation of the idea of recognition may cause.
