This article addresses the use of the natural resilience index (NRI) as a proposal for the management of natural resources for the Gurguéia river sub-basin, Piauí, Brazil. The methodology was developed from the use of the IRN developed based on the aspects of the average slope of the relief, the soil erodibility, the aridity index and the normalized difference vegetation index in a temporal analysis for the years 1987 and 2017, using Qgis for mapping the area. It was found that the IRN in 1987 and 2017 was moderate to low, mainly in the East and Southwest areas of the basin. The IRN demonstrated that the basin's natural recovery capacity from the resources and the period analyzed is progressive, when analyzing the high and very high classes 1987 (7.4%), 2017 (20.3%), being therefore, proper planning and management of management and exploitation of
these resources is necessary, in order to maintain sustainability in the medium and long term.
