Abstract

This paper presents an experience report with a qualitative, descriptive-analytical approach, developed in an Early Childhood Education Center located in the municipality of Timbiras, Maranhão, based on the implementation of the project “The Art of Telling and Enchanting.” The proposal emerged from the observation that, despite teachers’ commitment to pedagogical demands, storytelling was carried out mainly on commemorative dates and was not established as a systematic practice within the school routine.In response, the project sought to incorporate storytelling continuously throughout the week, with the aim of strengthening listening skills, imagination, and the development of children’s oral language. The experience initially revealed difficulties related to concentration and the habit of listening to narratives, aspects that were gradually transformed throughout the intervention.Grounded in authors such as Busatto (2006), Corsino (2021), among others who discuss children’s literature, mediation, and language development, the study highlights the importance of storytelling as a structuring pedagogical practice in Early Childhood Education.
