EURAFRICA SINCRETIZATION IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF GURUPÁ RELIGIOUS IDENTITY

Abstract

The present article aims to investigate the identity formation of religiosity in the municipality of Gurupá - Pará, based on the European action on the evangelization and imposition of the Roman Catholic Apostolic doctrine, using the sacred and traditional images of the Christian church. Therefore, the convergence with the Africanized belief, provoked in the slavery era, fostered strands of art, musicality and tools commonly originating from the black matrix, modifying the festive format of the celebrations, thus causing a syncretic consonant over centuries of history. The methodology consists of a bibliographic study, with solid references, developed with an ethnography of objects and tools present in the sacred manifestations, since observation was also crucial in the inferences of the researcher. The findings revealed a strong Eurafrican fusion, which is harmoniously present in the entire conjuncture of the principal festivities of Catholicism in Gurupá, besides a correlation with other religions in the Afro-Brazilian field.
