IS THERE JOY IN MOTHERING IN COLONIALISM?: Reading Notes on “The Joys of Motherhood” by Buchi Emecheta

This review focuses on the book “As Alegrias da Maternidade” written by Buchi Emecheta in 1979, however, this work was recently translated in Brazil, by the Dublinense publisher. In this sense, the purpose of this work is to detail the work in question, since it is the author's main book and the first time that a book of hers has been translated into Brazilian Portuguese. Furthermore, the objective is to carry out a brief analysis of some elements narrated in the book, such as gender, colonialism and motherhood, and to answer the question entitled in the review: “Is there joy in mothering in colonialism?”.
