Spatio-temporal analysis of land use and coverage and environmental quality in the Tocantins River water sub-basins in the municipality of Imperatriz-MA

Abstract

Ecology and landscape consist of planning ecological principles in evaluating the potential of nature and the landscape to accommodate human uses, mainly in river basins. This research aimed to evaluate water quality and the environmental quality of land use and coverage in the sub-watersheds of the Tocantins River, in the municipality of Imperatriz-MA, between the years 1990 and 2020. Water samples were found from the Bacuri, Cacau and Capivara streams. The parameters analyzed to characterize water quality were: pH, temperature, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, total nitrogen and total phosphorus, interrupting water quality due to human actions. Then, the Rapid Assessment
Protocol (PAR) was applied, in which it was possible to evaluate and identify possible weaknesses in the analyzed stream points, highlighting natural and anthropic aspects due to land use and occupation. Using previous research, it was possible to make a comparison by analyzing the results
of the data from this research and the current research and finally, statistical analysis was used to discuss the effects of changes in land use and cover in the sub-basins, as well as the effects on water quality.
