Abstract

The fight for women’s political rights in Brazil was perpetuated by demands and presence of social movements at the time. The political achievement occurred in 1932 and was reaffirmed in 1946, awakening a growing interest in women’s participation in politics, and instigating the human
sciences to study the phenomenon. However, even 90 years after gaining the right to vote, women are still a minority within political space, despite the significant number of candidacies. Persistent discrepancy reflects cultural stereotypes that perpetuate inequalities in the territory. Therefore,
geographic analysis highlights the need for inclusive public policies, integrating the gender perspective in local political debates to transform social relations and reduce inequalities. The study aims at investigating female participation in 2016 and 2020 municipal elections in Brazil, using a methodology that includes reading, bibliographic review and data collection from the TSE supporting debates and actions to promote equity and equality within Brazilian political scenario.
