Abstract

The Tocantins river is part of the Tocantins-Araguaia hydrographic basin, with an extension of approximately 2,600 km², considered the second largest river that has its waters entirely within national territory. Used since the beginning for navigation, the treasures of the Tocantins River were soon unveiled; since then, human interventions have been taking place with the aim of appropriating its riches, and with this, consequently, the increase in eutrophication of its waters. Over time, many houses were built on its banks, forming a population that is now known as riverside. Over the years, there was an industrial increase in this region, making the Tocantins River a target for exploration, showing loss of biodiversity and signs of weakness in the face of such actions. Thus, the present study aimed to analyze eutrophication in some points of the Tocantins River and the emergence of microscopic organisms harmful to human health and through conversation circles, lectures, interactive classes and informative pamphlets, it was possible to bring knowledge about the negative consequences suffered in the ecosystem as a whole, reporting the environmental impacts and problems that, as a result, can affect society and the riverside community in particular.
