Abstract

This paper suggests in general terms that the specificities of the Amazon urbanization process and
its land tenure issue particularize the neoliberal adjustment, bringing a different character from what
occurs in other regions of the country regarding housing policy. The occurrence of recent real
estate changes (2010s) in the expansion area of Belém is articulated with the examination of
different moments of implementation of housing policies locally. From the panorama offered by
the work, it is concluded that the analyzed transformations on housing provision represent a form of adjustment to capitalism and of the Amazon a role in the international division of labor, which
leads to the understanding that the economic character of the production of housing present since
the first housing policies sowed a favorable scenario for what would be the financialization of housing in the midst of the implementation of the Minha Casa Minha Vida Program and its successors.
