Violence Against Women As A Violation Of Human Rights In Cais Da Sagração, By Josué Montello

Abstract

This article aims to analyze violence against women as a violation of human rights in the novel Cais da Sagração, by the Maranhense writer Josué Montello. By promoting interdisciplinarity between law and literature, it is intended to show not only how human rights are violated in cases of violence against women, but also to demonstrate how literature can be useful as a platform for reflection on the concepts and legal topics. To achieve the objective, we will use as theoretical references the works of Hunt (2009), Azambuja and Nogueira (2008), Monteiro and Zaluar (2012), in addition to the analytical example of violence against women in the literature of Santos Filho and Matos (2020). ) and Almeida e Teixeira (2020), with regard to the novel by Josué Montello. In this way, we must face a scenario in which Vanju, the wife of the protagonist Severino, has her rights deprived from the beginning of their relationship in an escalation of events that will end in her tragic murder at the hands of her husband.
