UMA ETNOGRAFIA INTERPRETATIVA DOS BLOCOS TRADICIONAIS DE SÃO LUÍS

Resumo

RESUMO: Os Blocos Tradicionais compõem uma categoria específica no conjunto de manifestações culturais dentro do Carnaval de São Luís (Maranhão), e estão particularmente situados num cenário que inclui outras expressões culturais. Estes grupos carnavalescos carecem de pesquisas que desvendem sua origem, registrem sua trajetória histórica, seus sentidos e as práticas sociais no contexto em que estão inseridos. Neste artigo é feita uma análise sobre sua origem, a construção da terminologia “tradicional” e suas relações com as comunidades de pertencimento. As análises deste trabalho apontam para o fato dos blocos tradicionais constituírem-se numa tradição inventada e, ainda, refletem sobre as possíveis motivações para o seu
surgimento.

ABSTRACT: The Tradicional Blocks compose a specific category inside the group of cultural manifestations of the Carnival of São Luís (Maranhão), where they are particularly placed in scenery that includes other cultural expressions. These carnival groups need researches that reveal their origin, register their historical path, their senses and the social practices in the context that they are inserted. In this article is made an analysis about their origin, the construction of the “traditional” terminology and their relationships with the communities to which they belong. The analyses of this work indicate the fact of the Traditional Blocks constitute an invented tradition and, still, they show the possible motivations for their appearance.
