The civil-military dictatorship in the teaching of History in Timbiras
A DIDACTIC PROPOSAL BASED ON THE FILM I’M STILL HERE
Keywords:
Civil-Military Dictatorship; Memory; Human Rights.Abstract
This study investigates pedagogical possibilities of using the film I’m Still Here (2024), directed by Walter Salles, in History teaching, focusing on the Brazilian Civil-Military Dictatorship in basic education in the municipality of Timbiras (MA). It is assumed that audiovisual resources, when used critically and with methodological guidance, can foster more meaningful historical learning by expanding the understanding of authoritarian processes, human rights violations, and memory disputes related to the period 1964–1985. The research adopts a qualitative approach and is characterized as exploratory and intervention-oriented, combining a literature review, film analysis, examination of textbooks used in the investigated context, and the development of a didactic proposal organized as a sequence of activities. At present, the theoretical review and preliminary analysis of the film and teaching materials are underway; the next stage includes implementing the proposal in classes in which the topic is included in the curriculum, collecting classroom records and student productions for interpretive analysis. The study is expected to contribute to improving History teaching practices by strengthening debates on memory, democracy, and human rights in the school setting.
