About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The journal accepts original works (articles, reviews, experience reports, research notes, and interviews) in its sections on History and Humanities, Education and Teaching, Sciences, and Mathematics. Terra de Pretos accepts submissions with up to five authors, and at least one of them must hold a doctoral degree. Undergraduate degree holders, master’s students, master’s degree holders, and doctoral candidates may submit manuscripts provided they are co-authored with a PhD holder. Articles are received and published on a continuous-flow basis. Occasionally, thematic issues may be published with specific calls and deadlines, such as Dossiers.

QUALIS CAPES Evaluation 2021–2024: B3 (Education)

The accepted languages for publication are Portuguese, English, and Spanish. The concepts and opinions expressed in the works submitted to Terra de Pretos are the sole responsibility of their authors.

Peer Review Process

The evaluation process for manuscripts submitted to Terra de Pretos takes place in two stages. In the first stage, the manuscript is analyzed by the Editor-in-Chief, who conducts a preliminary assessment regarding the relevance of the content to the proposed theme (in the case of thematic issues) and to the journal’s editorial policy, as well as its compliance with the publication guidelines and standards. At this stage, the manuscript may be accepted or rejected.

In the second stage, manuscripts selected in the first stage are sent for blind review by two external reviewers, who issue one of the following recommendations: accepted, accepted with revisions, or rejected. Only manuscripts approved by both reviewers are published, including those accepted with revisions after the requested modifications have been made. In case of disagreement between the two reviews, a third review is requested.

Fee Waiver Policy

Terra de Pretos does not charge article processing charges (APCs), nor any fees for making articles available to authors and readers.

Anti-Plagiarism Policy

Terra de Pretos repudiates any form of plagiarism. It is the author’s responsibility to ensure the originality of the manuscript by properly citing sources in accordance with ABNT standards. Terra de Pretos uses the CopySpider tool to support the journal’s anti-plagiarism policy and verify the authenticity of submitted works. If plagiarism is detected, the manuscript will be immediately rejected.
