This work presents the results of a research carried out in the Community of Palmeiras, in the municipality of Mimoso do Sul (ES), whose objective was to carry out an analysis of local associative relationships around projects of common interest of an association of rural residents, founded in the 1990s. We argue that collective actions by residents have generated profound social transformations, beyond the local community. This work was based on interviews, participant observation and document analysis, in order to know the history of the association and identify its characteristics since it was founded. This work brings in its empirical characteristic its force of argumentation, enabling an articulation with theories about “life” and associative processes. It’s possible to conclude that in order to understand the transformations that took place in the Palmeiras Community, it is essential to look at processes that promoted the encounter of “local” culture and community traditions with the necessary characteristics to develop an associative work.
