The figure of singing in the poetry of Juanele Ortiz

Abstract

This article investigates poems by Juanele Ortiz, an argentine artist who is still little known in Brazil and who had part of his manuscripts stolen and burned by the Argentine dictatorial government. To understand how Ortiz's work incorporates philosophical conceptions about singing, aura, dreams and figures of nature, we will read some selected poems – translated especially for this study – and we will look at certain aspects of the materiality of singing in poetry based on conceptions of Asian thought contained in this aesthetic project, since the poet was a great reader and translator of Chinese and Japanese poetry, also in dialogue, above all, with the philosophy of Walter Benjamin. Finally, poetry itself will give us tools capable of reading the oppressive dictatorial motivations, as well as the artistic possibilities of resistance in the face of this violence.
