CARACTERIZAÇÃO DOS PACIENTES DIABÉTICOS ATENDIDOS NO AMBULATÓRIO DE UM HOSPITAL UNIVERSITÁRIO / CHARACTERISTICS OF DIABETIC PATIENTS SERVED IN THE AMBULATORY OF A UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

Abstract

Introdução: O Diabetes Mellitus (DM) é um grupo heterogêneo de distúrbios metabólicos que apresenta, em comum, a hiperglicemia
e quando não controlada repercute com grande impacto na saúde das pessoas. Objetivo: Caracterizar os pacientes diabéticos
atendidos no ambulatório de um Hospital Universitário. Método: Estudo descritivo quantitativo realizado meio de um
formulário aplicado aos pacientes portadores de DM. Resultados: Dos 108 pacientes pesquisados, 51,0% possuíam mais de 60
anos, 95,4% DM tipo 2; 55,0% diabetes há ≤ 10 anos, 31,0% apresentavam alteração nos níveis pressóricos, 33,0% eram tabagistas,
43,0% tinham sobrepeso, 73,0% referiam outra doença crônica e 17,5% deformidades nos pés. Conclusão: A evolução da
doença nos últimos 10 anos foi referida por metade dos pacientes, houve predominância de idosos com repercussões clínicas
em outros órgãos e hábitos de vida que comprometiam sua saúde necessitando de cuidados e intervenções para melhorar sua
qualidade de vida.

Abstract
Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a heterogeneous group of metabolic disorders that presents hyperglycemia in common
and when uncontrolled it has a great impact on people's health. Objective: To characterize the diabetic patients attended at the
outpatient clinic of University Hospital. Method: A quantitative descriptive study performed on a form applied to patients with
DM. Results: Of the 108 patients studied, 51.0% were older than 60 years, 95.4% were DM type 2, 55% had DM for ≤ 10 years,
31.0% had a change in blood pressure levels, 33.0% were smokers, 43.0% were overweight, 73.0% reported another chronic
disease and 17,5% were foot deformities. Conclusion: The evolution of the disease in the last 10 years was reported by half of
the patients, there was a predominance of elderly patients with clinical repercussions in other organs and life habits that compromised
their health, requiring care and interventions to improve their quality of life.
