CONVENIOS LABORALES DE LAS PERSONAS DE ORIGEN AFRICANO Y AFRODESCENDIENTES EN EL VALLE DE TOLUCA, SIGLOS XVI Y XVII/ LABOR AGREEMENTS FOR PEOPLE OF AFRICAN ORIGIN AND PEOPLE OF AFRICAN DESCENT IN THE TOLUCA VALLEY, 16TH AND 17TH CENTURIES

Resumo

Por meio de documentos guardados na seção histórica do Arquivo Geral de Notarías do Estado do México é possível reconstruir parte da história laboral de homens e mulheres africanos e afrodescendentes que habitaram o vale de Toluca durante o período colonial. A informação consultada dá conta da forma na qual os escravos alcançaram a liberdade, as atividades realizadas, as relações sociais e econômicas entre os grupos étnicos. Nas palavras de mulheres e homens africanos e afrodescendentes que alcançaram sua liberdade as atividades laborais não mudaram daquelas que seus pares escravizados realizavam. Como pessoas livres teriam o livre arbítrio de decidir em quê e por quanto tempo trabalhar, os contratos laborais pactuados entre indivíduos de diferentes qualidades dão conta que a eleição se viu coartada por endividamentos, libertação ou pagamento adiantado.

Resumen

A través de documentos resguardados en la sección histórica del Archivo General de Notarías del Estado de México es posible reconstruir parte de la historia laboral de hombres y mujeres africanos y afrodescendientes que habitaron en el valle de Toluca durante el período colonial. La información consultada da cuenta de la forma en la que los esclavos alcanzaron la libertad, las actividades realizadas, las relaciones sociales y económicas entre grupos étnicos. A decir de las mujeres y hombres africanos y afrodescendientes que alcanzaron su libertad las actividades laborales no variaron de las que sus pares esclavizados realizaban. Como personas libres tenían el libre albedrío de decidir en qué y por cuánto tiempo trabajar, los contratos laborales pactados entre individuos de diferentes calidades dan cuenta que la elección se vio coartada por endeudamientos, excarcelaciones o adelantos de pago.

Abstract

Through documents protected in the historical section of the Archivo General de Notarías del Estado de México it is possible to reconstruct part of the working history of African and Afro-descendant men and women who lived in the Toluca valley during the colonial period. The information consulted gives an account of the way in which the slaves reached the freedom, the activities carried out, and the social and economic relations between ethnic groups. In the words of African and Afro-descendant women and men who achieved their freedom, labor activities did not vary from what their enslaved peers were doing. As people free had the free will to decide on what and for how long they work, the contracts agreed between individuals of different qualities realize that the election was quartered by indebtedness, release or advance payment.
